GARY MIESSLER INORGANIC CHEMISTRY PDF

Strong coverage of atomic theory and an emphasis on physical chemistry provide a firm understanding of the theoretical basis of inorganic chemistry, while a reorganized presentation of molecular orbital and group theory highlights key principles more clearly. While this new edition has added problems and made some fairly major revisions, it has one major flaw in my opinion. The authors have omitted Appendix B and the chapter on bioinorganic is gone as well. The absence of Appendix B is particularly bad. It contains all of the relevant numerical data like ionization energies, electron affinities, radii, and orbital potential energies. There are more relevant stuff in it than in the previous editions.

By Michelle Lewis on Mar 14, if your teacher assigns this, consider finding another class. This textbook is great for graduate students- lots of advanced research and information for inorganic chemistry, but as an undergrad student it will make your life miserable.

There are very few simple explanations or material that would fall under an "introduction to inorganic chemistry". Most of what I learned for my inoganic class was finding websites and not using this book. By this time, my first exam was rapidly approaching, and I had given up hope of receiving it in time to study. However, it came two days earlier than expected, and I was able to study. The lack of color can be slightly confusing in certain pictures, but if you actually read the text and captions this is not an issue.

There are not enough good examples that pertain to the chapter problems. By Aaron Vincent on Feb 27, This book is very useful for chemists in undergrad and graduate level courses. Good textbook! By Luan on Feb 25, Good textbook for advance courses but could be more detailed.

Almost all the pages are dirty. In general, there are three different types of undergraduate inorganic chemistry courses offered: 1 One semester Descriptive Inorganic pre P.

In my opinion, this is the best textbook on the market for a one-semester advanced inorganic course. A lot of the chapters seemed to be organized such that the essential information was presented first, followed by applications and interesting side notes for each of the topics.

This was very helpful when skimming before the final! I also recommend the solution manual!! My professor thought this would be a useful text to cover our introductory class, as it does not waste time on basic information on periodicity, etc.

However, after a few weeks of telling us what not to read as it was far too abstruse , and resorting to other textbooks, she had to give up altogether on this one. There are too few grainy pictures, questions that rarely relate to the material in the chapter, and a text whose density rivals the Bible.

Came into use after I left university. Concise Inorganic Chemistry by J. Lee, 5th edition 2. Sharpe 3. Basic Inorganic Chemistry by F.

Gaus 4. A nice, easy read for a one semester, terminal course. Latest is the 6th edition. Not the be-all and end-all of inorganic chem, though. A book with the same title - Descriptive Inorganic Chemistry - by House and House is also available; seems good. Douglas, Darl H. McDaniel, John J. Okay textbook By Student on Aug 26, This book served as the textbook for my advanced inorganic chemistry class in college. Inorganic chemistry may be inherently difficult. That being said, I do not feel that Miessler was a particularly apt guide in navigating the byzantine intricacies of subjects like Molecular Oribital Theory.

I found myself having to re-read passages, to parse out important points. The integration of these points into the body of knowledge at large felt to me to be a charge which Miessler expects the student to bear. That is to say, the text can at times feel fragmentary, devoid of the holistic picture, what I reckon the systematic nature of scientific knowledge.

That being said, I really do not know of any better text books on the subject. I had to search Google for supplementary links that actually explained most of the major concepts. Not recommended. Pretty good Paine on Jan 12, One must look at this book from the standpoint of the authors.

This book is written from a symmetry and point-group standpoint. Having met the authors, I learned that the symmetry and point-group chapter 3? What is excellent is that the basics are taught really well the point-group stuff, and the ligand-field theory chapter and that there are literature references to almost all topics in the book.

If you like learning and have a good prof, this is a good book. Whether you are a professor or a student you should be using Miessler and Tarr for Inorganic Chemistry. I would recommend getting one of the newer editions.

However, the 4th edition add color images, and re-arranges some things. Bad condition, good book! The book in it self is ok, it has good and to the point explanations. I was scareed that whem i used the book it would fall apart. They should say that in the book description when you rent. The explanations were simple and easy to follow.

If you need practice problems with solutions, however, you would need supplementary material. Great Book, needs solutions manual though. By Dylan Pitcairn on Nov 12, Inorganic chemistry is an interesting class, and this book is much cheaper to rent or buy than the newest 5th edition.

The only draw back is that you need the solutions manual which sells separately. The pages are in great condition practically new which is the important part. Tough read By Martina on Sep 29, I found the text difficult to read and understand without taking Physical Chemistry.

Problems are extremely challenging and thought provoking. Decent textbook By Bmk on Feb 17, This book is decent. Definitely more like an encyclopedia than an ordinary textbook, and certainly lacking in the example department.

Otherwise, it does the trick! Miessler , Paul J. Fischer , Donald A. This particular edition is in a Hardcover format. It was published by Pearson and has a total of pages in the book. To buy this book at the lowest price, Click Here. Similar Books.

Worked examples throughout demonstrate step-by-step how problems are solved and exercises provide ample opportunity to practice the concepts learned. Features Excellent, balanced coverage of core principles and theory enables students to get through this material in a one-semester course while special topic coverage, such as organometallic and solid-state chemistry, allows instructors flexibility in covering topics The strong presentation of atomic theory and emphasis on physical chemistry give students a firm understanding of the theoretical basis of inorganic chemistry. New co-author Paul J. Fischer received a B. He conducted his doctoral research in organometallic chemistry by exploring the chemistry of zerovalent titanium carbonyl complexes.
